KERSIK TUA |

| The departure point for climbs up Gunung Kerinci is the attractive
highland village of KERSIK TUA , 48km north of Sungaipenuh. The entire
region is beautiful, with brilliant green-tea plantations on gently
rolling hillsides as far as the eye can see. To get to Kersik Tua, catch
a local bus from Jalan H Agus Salim in Sungaipenuh (the bus conductors
yell "Kayuaro", which is the local name for the entire district); it
takes about ninety minutes. If coming from Padang , the long-distance
buses to Sungaipenuh pass through Kersik Tua. Darmin Homestay (no phone;
under $5) is on the main road, several hundred metres north of the
sideroad to Gunung Kerinci and is clean and welcoming, with fine views.
They will help you arrange local trips ; expect to pay Rp20,000-25,000
per day for a porter and Rp25,000-40,000 for a guide. |
