| TOYA BUNGKAH , 8km from Penelokan, is the accommodation centre of
the lakeside area and the main starting point for climbs up Gunung Batur.
The stylish hot springs, Tirta Sanjiwana (daily 8am-6pm) have a cold-water
and hot-water pool (US$5 for both) and a private jacuzzi (US$20). Jero
Wijaya (tel 0366/51249), Arlina's (tel 0366/51165) and the new,
enthusiastic Gede Mangun's trekking and tour company (tel 0366/51824)
provide reliable information about the area and operate travel and tour
services. They also offer guides for climbs up Batur (US$10-30 per
person, Gunung Abang (US$30-35 per person) and Agung (US$50-75 per
person). You can change money and travellers' cheques at several places
in the village. Places to stay line the road in Toya Bungkah, with a few
more down by the lakeside. Arlina's (tel 0366/51165; $5-10) is a
friendly, popular setup at the southern end of town, with clean rooms,
some en-suite. Close to the hot springs, Pualam ($5-10) is small and
quiet with good rooms; the lakeside Tirta Yatra (under $5) is more basic;
and the nearby Nyoman Mawa II ( Under the Volcano II; no phone; $5-10)
has attractive rooms. |
