| Three kilometres from Penelokan, the southernmost lakeside village
of KEDISAN is convenient for visits to the Bali Aga village of TRUNYAN
but further to the start of the Gunung Batur climb. The Penelokan road
splits at Kedisan: the right fork leads to the jetty for boats to
Trunyan and continues on to the villages of Buahan and Abang. Public
boats to Trunyan are for locals only, so you'll have to charter one: the
price for a boat shared by three people is Rp95,000. A couple of hundred
metres beyond the village of BUAHAN , Baruna (tel 0366/51221; under $5)
is one of the quietest places to stay on the lake. It offers basic rooms
with cold-water bathrooms and the view is pretty perfect. Public bemos
from Penelokan go as far as Buahan; the public price is Rp1500 but
tourists usually end up paying more. At the bottom of the hill down from
Penelokan, the left fork leads to Toya Bungkah. A few hundred metres
from the junction, towards Toya Bungkah, Hotel Segara (tel 0366/51136;
under $25) has a wide range of accommodation. Nearby Hotel Surya (tel
0366/51139; $5-15) also offers clean rooms with cold or hot water, and
good balconies; they have a limited free local pick-up service . |
